About Steve Ladner

Steve Ladner In the early 1970s I created a fashion photography studio in New York City. I was shooting for GQ, Harpers’s Bazaar, Esquire, Town&Country, other magazines, and cosmetic campaigns for Revlon, Chanel, and others. In the 1980s I lived in France and shot for French Vogue and other fashion magazines and advertising accounts. I always approached the work as an art and did my best to make commercial work as artistic as I could make it given the restrictions.

Some of my fashion work now has a vintage fashion art appeal. I believe the images I chose transcend their original purpose and are interesting in their color, composition, emotion, and form. I was not formally trained in photography, so I tried things; I was free to experiment and discover from the start. Even by the standards of fashion photography at the time, my personal vision was unique and a bit eccentric often.

The fashion photographs displayed on this site work as art, worthy of being hung on a wall.

In 2009 I moved to Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia. I continue to photograph commercially, mostly portraits, headshots, and interiors. I moved to Birchrunville recently (farm country near Chester Springs, PA, north of Philadelphia.)

My passion now is creating digital artwork, digital photo art, and mixed media (photography, paint, ink.) My most recent art project is creating fine art images transforming objects, natural elements, landscapes and cityscapes into iconic expressionistic images, using digital tools as another way to expand both the nature of photography and my creative expression.

I created a series of abstract pieces that are beautiful as shapes and colors, yet also have recognizable elements since they originated as photographs.
I believe these photo-art images are perfect for display as decorative wall art for home or office, and take the photograph to a new level of meaning. These images reflect my intention to evoke an emotional response and a visceral and tactile experience.
