This is a photograph of an off moment from a fashion shoot I did around 1973 in the Bahamas for a client when I was shooting fashion for magazines and advertising in NYC in the 1970s. This moment was in between shots for the client. The model was just relaxing and looking out over the ocean. I created the designs by hand directly on the photograph with pen & ink and paint. Then I re-photographed the finished piece and digitized it for making multiple prints available.
In the early 1970s I created a fashion photography studio in New York City. I was shooting for GQ, Harpers Bazaar, Esquire, Town&Country, other magazines, and cosmetic campaigns for Revlon, Chanel, and others. In the 1980s I lived in France and shot for French Vogue and other fashion magazines and advertising accounts. I always approached the work as an art and did my best to make commercial work as artistic as I could make it given the restrictions. Some of my fashion work now has a vintage fashion art appeal. I believe the images I chose transcend their original purpose and are interesting in their color, composition, emotion, and form.
